#195: Icons

Finally, my entry for somein30. The theme "All Things Random" was absolutely amazing and super inspiring. I started right away and made 1-2 icons per day, but then kinda lost momentum and really needed that extension. Nevertheless, I'm very happy with my set. Usually I lament the fact that it does not look coherent. This time I went into the opposite direction. I thought it would fit the theme to use as many different styles/techniques as possible. That didn't quite work out, but this time I like how chaotic the overall look is. I also really wanted to use 20 different fandoms which was much easier.

1. Random character: Nathan Stark (Eureka)
I haven't watched or iconed this show in ages. I really loved it though, so that was fun to go back to.
2. Random icontest challenge: Challenge 85: Muted colors @ elite_fringe
Very simple. I figured I could use whatever fandom I want here. It's been a while, so I just used Fringe since that's where the challenge is from.
3. Random praise: "I love the colors and the use of text here."
My first thought was "Don't make me use text." I feel like I didn't really do this justice. Both text and colors are not really special.
4. Random screencap: Divergent (originally posted here)
All I know about this movie is that it was supposed to launch a series and didn't. I thought it was safe to just do a close crop.
5. Random song: Simon & Garfunkel - The Sound of Silence (YouTube | Spotify | Lyrics)
Here's a thing about this song, I always get stuck on the use of "neon light" in the lyrics. So I had to use that in my icon.
6. Random tutorial: Tutorial by theladymorgan (The first tutorial on this page, this one)
Very simple and straightforward. I followed it using a different color and made it less saturated. It feels a little unfinished, but I didn't want to add more than what was in the actual tutorial.
7. Random movie poster: Welcome Home (2018)
"Person stands in front of house with back turned to you" was the theme for this icon. Then I made it black&white since I wanted to do as many different things as possible. I rarely make black and white icons.

Zari is using headphones during work, not on her way there, but it counts, right?
9. Random textures: neke and inxsomniax
I tried using all three, but the other one didn't fit. I thought I'd utilize the pink one a little more, but I'm okay with how this turned out.
10. Random font: Vtks Dirty 2
I'm weirdly happy with this one even though I had to use text. The font itself is kinda grungy so I tried to add a little bit of that into the actual icon.
11. Random trope: The Old Convict
It is not easy to find caps from Prion Break's first season. Or maybe I was just not looking hard enough. In any case, the quality was pretty low and I tried to cover it up. Not sure if it shows.
12. Random remake: this icon
I was not 100% happy with the original icon, so I was happy to give this cap another go. I added some more color this time, but overall still went with similar kind of textures/style.
13. Random song title: I Think About You
I really struggled with this one. I honestly had no idea what to do. I finally settled on Flint thinking about Thomas and adding the "know no shame" inscription.
14. Random inspiration icon: Icon by rebel
I feel like I stayed pretty close to the inspiration icon without copying too directly here.
15. Random palette: Read The Last Tempta
This does not feel much like a palette, but like different shapes of the same color which works for me. It was pretty easy.
16. Random art: Abstract Landscape (Joseph Henry Sharp & Bernadine Custer (1930/1940))
What really stood out to me wasn't the subject, but more the fact that you can easily see the structure of the paint. So I added a paint texture and kinda used similar colors. It is also from an outdoor setting, but you can't really see that with the removed background.
17. Random album cover: Los Flechazos – Alta Fidelidad
I used a cap with the same angle and added green, pretty straightforward.
18. Random book cover: How To Draw Farm Animals: Step-By-Step Instructions by Happy Turtle Press
Honestly, this was the first one I had an idea for. Okay, Judy is not a farm animal, but she is wearing her farmer's outfit! I was more inspired by the title than the actual cover, I hope that's alright. The animated version is probably not that usable, so I added a simple alternate.
19. Random word: stock
Making a stock icon for this one seemed too easy and I really wanted to do 20 different fandoms. So I used stock images and added them into the icon.
20. Random screencap pool: Supernatural (caps from homeofthenutty.com)
I kinda had a hard time choosing a cap and then ended up with another green icon.
