I was already preparing excuses for why my first update of 2025 is so late, but apparently I'm still earlier than last year. When retro_icontest posted this round based on an old technique20in20 challenge, I really wanted to enter. I loved this community back in the day and always thought I made pretty good icons for it. You can find the set I originally made for that challenge here. I'm not super happy with these, but considering how rusty I am, it's okay ;)

Look at me entering monthlyinspo! The theme is Me and My Best Friend. My plan was to only use show I'm currently watching/watched recently, but I couldn't find the screencaps I wanted. So I threw in Only Murders in the Building since that will start again soon. I feel like I did manage to end up with a somewhat coherent set by removing the backgrounds that I am rather happy with.

The first new icons I'm posting this year! Not the first ones I made, but you know what happens here lol
I didn't even think I would enter this round of monthlyinspo . Then I decided to just look for some screencaps that would do most of the work for me which is how I settled on the fandoms. Nothing fancy here. I think they turned out okay and I liked making the full 20 this time.

No matter what theme/prompt/challenge I sat in front of this month, nothing happened. I really wanted to enter both of these though. monthlyinspo had a grab bag and when I ask for one, I'll make something for it! Round 20 is the final round of somein30, so I also had to enter that one. I only did five icons when my personal minimum is usually ten. Like I said, nothing worked for me this month. I'm not happy with the first five icons, but then I decided to go with the same approach as tinny which worked much better for me :D

Last day of the extended deadline and I'm finally posting my entry for monthlyinspo. First I wasn't sure what fandom to use. Thor: Love and Thunder seemed perfect, but initially I was too lazy to go through 80 pages of caps. I thought I'd use another fandom which had a gallery that I could sort by most viewed. That didn't happen and in the end I went through 80 pages of caps. When I had them and finally started my set, I got some neck/shoulder pain which made using Photoshop kinda difficult. My set was original 10 icons, but there were some I wanted to redo since they didn't really fit in with the rest (keeping the original background and mainly monochrome coloring), these are icons 11 and 12.

I made it! I finished a second set for somein30, this time with a TV show. Recently I watched Schitt's Creek and it did seem perfect for this challenge. I did the last season and used hard mode. My original plan was to represent the episode titles in some way, but I ended with what I think are recognizable caps.

During the Summer months I barely made any icons, but I also neglected to update this community with the (by now) old icons have still laying around *sighs*
So here is my entry for somein30. I picked Extra Hard Mode. I'm in a bit of a Star Wars mood after playing the Lego Skywalker Saga which makes this mode much easier. They are in chronological order since that's also how I played the game. I tried to tie them all together by adding some grunge to every icon. The icons from the new movies still look very different with their more vibrant coloring. I'd love to do another set which fits a bit more with the theme and use a TV show, but I'm not sure if that will happen. I also feel a tad bit rusty, so these are pretty simple overall, but it still took me a while to make them.

Here is what I refer to as my main set for the current somein30 challenge. It uses hard mode and I have to say that I'm rather proud of it. Not because the icons are particularly usable, but it was quite the project. Again, not even the icons itself, but finding the right subjects/screencaps, how to interpret certain songs, and make it all fit together. Since I already made a mini set for the challenge, I did take my time for this one and doesn't matter how close to the deadline I enter. That said, I did not work on it for a month after initially starting like a day after it was posted. Below the icon table is lengthy(?) write-up about the album itself and the inspiration for each icon.

I actually have a proper set for somein30 that I'm working on and will hopefully finish after not working on it for fours weeks. Meanwhile, I am completely obsessed with this one song/music video at the moment (not going to be everyone's cup of tea) and I had to channel that into...something. This is supposed to be ultra hard mode (never thought I'd say that) but I did the exact opposite of what the theme post says and used the chorus only with all the repeated bits. In any case, it does fit the theme in general. I'm not sure how well these turned out since text is still my enemy, but I had fun! Using the same coloring on all of them at least help to great a coherent look.

It actually seemed easier since I picked one fandom, so using provided textures for the icons worked well. I'm looking forward to Part 2. Maybe in that round I'll actually icon musicians ;)

I love monthlyinspo's theme Spice Up Your Life and the entire theme post. It took me a while (of course) to decide on a fandom, but now I'm happy with how most of these turned out. I tried to do a bit of a interpretative approach, like using a "fresh" new character for mint. Others, like sage, are purely based on color.

Thanks so much to vapor for the extension on this month's monthlyinspo challenge with the theme two of a kind. I chose to icon different combinations of characters from The Expanse and this could have also worked for 20 icons. Occasionally I have this problem that I save caps and think all the work is done. Nope, still need to actually make the icons. Then I thought I had until the end of the month. When I realized that mistake, RL happened and I wasn't finished on the 23rd -.-
Anyway, I managed it now and I'm actually rather happy with how these turned out. I went with vibrant (or at least not muted) for all of them which worked out fine.

Happy Halloween! Here is my entry for somein30's Round 11: Cropping. When the theme was posted, I was once again very motivated to enter and even wanted to make two sets. That didn't happen. I'm also not 100% happy with this set. I do like the screencaps though and Kin was just perfect for this challenge. I tried to do more than just close crops, so I decided to do one theme per row (more than one character, no eyes+muted, negative space, and texture).

When the Extra round at somein30 was posted, I was sooo motivated to enter at least two of the previous rounds I skipped. What I ended up with is another set based on Round 01: Technical Game...and it took me ages. I made the first icons for this entry on June 12, so over two months. This is pretty much the continuation of the first Technical Game set posted here using caps from Lucifer S5B (the other one used primarily caps from 5A). I used the same kind of style to get a coherent look, but there are some thoughts/concerns. I have a bit of a problem with 9. On the one hand I really like how it turned out, but on the other hand I'm not sure if it follows the theme "Ray(s) of light" that well. I really fought with 11. I had an idea and the animation itself resembles that. Overall I'm not too happy with it, but was also too frustrated to redo everything. It's the last icon I finished. For 12 I really only used textures to get a similar effect to the other icons even if it looks as if I just did the same thing again.
You can hover over the icons for the specific themes, but I also posted the complete list of prompts below the icons. I used normal mode for all of them.

Another last-minute entry for somein30. I decided two days before the original deadline to enter after all. I considered doing hue/brightness right from the start, but didn't know what to icon. Then NBC canceled Debris, I was mad, and decided that's the perfect opportunity to use screencaps from the show.

Finally, my entry for somein30. The theme "All Things Random" was absolutely amazing and super inspiring. I started right away and made 1-2 icons per day, but then kinda lost momentum and really needed that extension. Nevertheless, I'm very happy with my set. Usually I lament the fact that it does not look coherent. This time I went into the opposite direction. I thought it would fit the theme to use as many different styles/techniques as possible. That didn't quite work out, but this time I like how chaotic the overall look is. I also really wanted to use 20 different fandoms which was much easier.

Here is my entry for somein30. It is also the first proper post this year. Originally I wanted to use the Pixar movies Soul and Onward, but it's kinda hard to find screencaps which I noticed a little late. I settled on A Discovery of Witches instead. Each of the atmospheres in the challenge post are represented in at least one icon which should fit the hard mode criteria for this round (hover for the specific one). The set is a little incoherent, as always, but I'm still satisfied because I managed to create something with all different aspects of the inspiration post in mind. I'm posting the icons I managed to make until now. Due to real life I couldn't finish as many icons as I wanted.
